Through projects implemented under the ‘Anaithu Grama Anna Marumalarchi Thittam', villages in the State are being provided with basic amenities that are on par with those in towns and cities, Collector P. Umanath said a Gram Sabha held on Saturday at Varapatti village here to mark May Day.
The Collector and Panchayat President T. Shakthivel reviewed projects under this scheme and also under the Kalaignar Housing Scheme and the progress of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme. The Collector said Varapatti was chosen for infrastructure and amenities projects under the Marumalarchi scheme for the year 2020-11. The village already had good amenities, he said.
The forming of a pond, the construction of a library, a cremation ground with compound wall and roads and an overhead tank with a capacity of 10,000 litres were some of the works that would be taken up at Rs.20 lakh.
The objective of holding Gram Sabhas was to make a transparent presentation of the schemes before the people. Dr. Umanath said the enumeration of families living in hutments was on in the district for the implementation of the housing scheme.
