Forest personnel, aided by special task force personnel have mounted operations in the wake of cutting down of more than 500 sandalwood trees in Anaimalai Tiger Reserve, officials said.

The operations are aimed at tracking the movement of strangers inside the reserve area, besides sealing the entry points, they said.

Officials had recently seized over 600 kgs of sandalwood being smuggled to Kerala in a lorry.

Officials also suspect that the smugglers and poachers might have cut more trees to be taken out of the jungles, they added.
