District Collector S. Prabhakar has asked the Gobichettipalayam Revenue Divisional Officer to probe complaints related to sale of lands given to tribal people.

During the farmers’ grievance redress meeting held at Collectorate, V.P. Gunasekaran, president of Tamil Nadu Tribal People Association, said that lands belonged to the tribal people living in hilly areas were grabbed by non-tribals.

He said that the lands were given to them to carry out agriculture activities. The lands were registered at sub-register office and sold illegally, he added.

Mr. Gunasekaran wanted the diversion of water project from Maniyachipallam to the plains to be dropped as implementing it would adversely affect forests, and animals.

Mr. Prabhakar said that notices will be served on the seller, buyer of the land, Village Administrative Officer, and others involved.
