Thaarika and her friends have been waiting for June 22 for a long time. They’ve never been to a first-day, first-show film as a group, and bunked classes to get tickets for Saguni , directed by Shankar Dayal. The 12-member gang of girls lived it up to the hilt in a house-full hall.
Even before titles rolled, avid fans of actor Karthi whistled in expectation at Archana theatre.
Many had lined up even on Thursday to grab tickets for the much-awaited film - there’s been a long gap between Siruthai and Saguni , you see! “We are loving it,” says Thaarika. “We all like Karthi, and Santhanam is too good,” she adds.
The best part of their trip today? They were worried they’d have to bunk college, but classes were cancelled and they watched the film with a clear conscience.
Elsewhere, N. Karthik and his gang - Vinodh, Dilip and Arun - are sitting glum in the foyer during the interval. “We came in with great hope, but I really wish it picks up some speed,” says Karthik, an engineer. “We’ve been waiting for a long time for Karthi’s film…”
In the theatre, every time Santhanam comes up with one of his never-ending wisecracks, some of which are slightly off-colour, you can hear the enthusiastic hooting. Evidently, the actor and his writers know their audience well.
Some songs and fights later, when’s all well, everyone files out. Thaarika’s friend Deepika and many other girls walk out with a dreamy look and a smile. The Karthi effect?
