Badly maintained government department vehicles greet daily visitors to the Collectorate here.
Worst among them are the two belonging to Agriculture Department.
One of them, a Jeep, purchased by the department under the Training and Visit scheme initiated on October 1, 1981, and subsequently condemned long back, has been lying on the Collectorate campus without the authorities taken any steps to remove it. The rusted vehicle is a breeding source for mosquitoes when the skies open up, and water stagnates in it.
Making the matters worse, a tree recently got uprooted and fell on the vehicle. The other vehicle of the Agriculture Department that was in bad shape too had been lying neglected without any maintenance. Steps are on to auction this vehicle, said sources in the department.
K. Ponnusamy who had taken to the notice of authorities concerned the state of the vehicles said that these vehicles, which once served the government and the farmers well, should have been given better treatment.
Instead of showing the tendency to discard the same, they should have been auctioned at an appropriate time to some vehicle lovers who wished to preserve such vehicles, said some of the visitors to the Collectorate.
