Members of the Tamil Nadu Rural Development Officials’ Association staged a protest near The Nilgiris Collectorate on Wednesday seeking action in the case of a department employee who was allegedly driven to suicide owing to pressure from his superiors.

R. Muthukrishnan, an overseer in Rural Development Department in Tiruvarur district had set himself on fire. He died on Sunday at Tiruvarur Medical College Hospital early on Monday and named one of his superiors in his dying declaration as causing him mental agony.

The protestors demanded immediate arrest of the officer named Muthukrishnan and an end to departmental meetings on weekends and holidays, besides a halt to issuing of memos on spurious charges
