Coimbatore Corporation Ward 23 residents met on Sunday to discuss ways to find solutions to civic issues that affect them.

Some of the residents of Ward 23 (the northern part of R.S. Puram) came together on Sunday at the SRP school grounds on West Periasamy Road to discuss civic issues concerning them. The objective, resident Ravi Sam said, was to make the ward the best place to live. The residents had met the Corporation Commissioner in this regard and then decided to come together to understand the problems and find out solutions. The focus was on individual social responsibility like corporate social responsibility.

The residents said traffic and parking, garbage collection, water supply and groundwater position, street lights, cleaning of drains, maintenance of recreation spaces and general security were their concerns.

Many residents complained that two-wheelers and four-wheelers were parked haphazardly on almost all streets in R.S. Puram and in some cases from morning till evening. Anish Mathai of West Periasamy Road said that visitors to a commercial establishment near his house occupied the parking space right from the morning till late evening and that something needed to be done. Resident Sundararajan of Vincent Colony said that the residents’ collective should work with the Corporation to solve street dog menace, which was so big that he had to give up early morning walks for fear of being chased. Resident RV Ramani suggested that they jointly first prepare a directory.

The residents also spoke about cleaning the Muthannan kulam to improve groundwater table.
