United India Insurance has disbursed Rs. 73 crore for claims under the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme in this region from January 2012 to January 2013.
Chief Regional Manager of the company M.A. Azeez told The Hindu on Saturday that it collected Rs. 42 crore premium from the insurance card holders in this region, covering Coimbatore, Tirupur, Salem, Erode, Namakkal, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri and the Nilgiris districts. It had disbursed Rs. 73 crore to nearly 30,000 beneficiaries in this region.
The company had 67 branches in the region and 37 micro offices. This included 17 micro offices opened in the rural areas during this financial year. The total premium collected by it so far in these eight districts was Rs. 281 crore. The main segments here were industries and motor insurance.
Under the financial inclusion programme, United India Insurance adopted three Government schools in the region. It also provided infrastructure facilities in these schools. Last year, the company had adopted about a dozen villages. The regional office recently launched its silver jubilee celebrations.
