The roof of a house constructed by the Tamil Nadu Housing Board in Ganapathy Maanagar came crashing down on Thursday evening.

Fortunately, there was no one inside the house.

The low income group house belonged to Duraipandi. According to eye witnesses, a woman inside the house had gone out after locking its door when the accident occurred. The house was handed over to Mr. Duraipandi in 1995. A majority of the allottees are yet to get the sale deeds. TNHB said that the sale deeds could not be given because of the litigations relating to the land acquisition pending before courts. The allottees say that even owners of houses that are not under litigation are yet to get sale deeds.

The roof that came crashing down has damaged household articles and even the walls suffered extensive damages.
