Rioting cases against seven

The Coimbatore District Rural Police have booked seven persons in two cases of rioting.

According to the police, R. Udayachandren (28) of Anamalai had a dispute with his father M. Rajagopal (60) over the ownership of the house. A civil case was currently pending in a sub-court. Udayachandren was residing separately with his wife U. Parameshwari (25).

Rajagopal had allegedly gathered four others and assaulted Udayachandren, Parameshwari and Udayachandran’s grandmother with an iron rod on Saturday at their house and had threatened them to vacate the house. Rajagopal and Parameshwari were undergoing treatment at the Government Hospital at Vettaikaranpudur.

The Anamalai police have registered a case and invoked Sections 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 294 (b) (uttering obscene words in public) and 506 (ii) (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Rajagopal’s four accomplices have been arrested and remanded in custody. In a counter case, Rajagopal has accused Udayachandren and his son Pandiyarajan of assaulting him with an iron rod on Saturday.

The Anaimalai police have registered a case and invoked Sections 147, 148, 324, 294 (b) and 506 (ii) of the IPC against the duo. Further investigations are on.

Valuables stolen

Cash, gold and silver jewellery besides electronic items worth around Rs. 1.50 lakh were stolen from a locked house on V.K. Road near Peelamedu sometime last week.

According to the police, the house break-in came to light on Saturday. The complainant, S. Thirupathiraj, said that around nine sovereigns of gold jewellery and silver ornaments, Rs. 60,000 in cash and a digital camera were missing.
