Members of Tamil Nadu All Cooperative Bank Employees Association took out a procession in Erode on Monday asking the State government to take steps to revise the pay structure implemented for the employees working in fair price shops, which were functioning under primary agriculture cooperative credit societies.
The government had earlier revised the pay scales for these employees in 2008. Despite repeated representations, the government had not revised the pay structure after 2008, the association s said.
The government had recently announced the formation of a committee to revise pay scales for salesmen in fair price shops. Welcoming the announcement, members appealed to the committee members to come up with their recommendations quickly.
The association demanded the government to promote all eligible workers in fair price shops. A medical insurance scheme should be implemented for fair price shop workers and those employed in the credit societies.
Benefits such as pension and travelling allowance should also be provided for workers. A sales assistant post should be created in shops that serve more than 500 family card holders.
Electronic billing machines should be provided at all the shops in the state. The government should conduct an investigation to remove the irregularities at various levels in the public distribution system.
District president P. Chellamuthu led the procession.
