Resume works: petition

May 14, 2018 07:40 pm | Updated 07:40 pm IST - SALEM

A group of women of Kondappanayakkanpatti, near here, petitioned the revenue authorities demanding that works under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNREGS) be resumed.

The petition said that a majority of women from villages have registered their names under the MNREGS and were eking out a livelihood through the works provided under the scheme for many years.

The women said that they have not been provided works for the last three months. This has affected their financial condition to a big extent. The matter was taken to the notice of panchayat authorities in vain.

As many of them were senior citizens, they could not go for other jobs and were living in penury.

They asked the District Collector to restore the works under MNREGS.
