Within days of the Coimbatore Corporation saying that tough days are ahead on the water supply front as the level in the Siruvani Dam has come down, residents in Selvapuram on Wednesday staged a protest.

According to sources, around 150 residents, including 100 women, from the Selvapuram Housing Unit squatted across the Chokkampudur Road complaining that water supply to their area had been delayed.

They told the police, who rushed to the spot, that until recently the Corporation supplied water once in four days.

It had been eight days now but the civic body had not supplied Siruvani water. The police then contacted the Corporation and Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board to officials, who took time to reach the spot.

Meanwhile, the residents went to Perur Road and staged a protest there. Their protest affected traffic flow on the busy road.

As the officials rushed to the spot, promised water and later sent lorries, the residents gave up their protest.

Even as the lorries were on their way, a group of residents returned to Chokkampudur Road to stage protest. This was after seeing the police divert traffic through the road.

The protestors left the police only after the lorries arrived.
