Residents of a few localities near Sukhrawarpet petitioned the district administration officials complaining of supplying contaminated drinking water.

Residents of Chinna Ellaiya Lane, Krishnappa Lane, Pattu Poochi Lane, Kalinga Lane and a few other areas went to the Coimbatore Collectorate with bottles of contaminated water and petitions saying that the Corporation had supplied them contaminated drinking water.

S. Krishnakumar, a resident, said around 50 people went to meet the officials as the Corporation’s last two water supplies were contaminated. The Corporation at present supplied water only once in 20 days and that meant that the residents almost went without water for over a month.

Sometime ago, they had lodged a complaint with the Corporation but it was not of no use. Their demand to the district administration officials was to supply clean, potable water at the earliest.

Sources familiar with the issue said the water supply engineers found it difficult to detect the point of contamination as the Corporation supplied water only once in 20 days. If the supply were to be either continuous or at least once in two to three days, the job would be easier.
