For industries, commercial establishments and domestic consumers here reeling under 14 hours of power cut a day, the last two days were a relief from the long hours of power cut.

On Sunday, power cut in the city was only for six hours as against the 14 hours a day, says an official of the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO). The usual load shedding schedule was not implemented because of the reduction in power cut duration. Rain in several parts of the State brought down demand and reduced load shedding. Further, the demand from industries here is not much, the official adds.

According to data available on the website of Tamil Nadu Transmission Corporation, load shedding in the State on Monday morning (November 26) was to the tune of 2,116 MW as against 3,385 MW on November 21. Load shedding on Sunday evening (November 25) was 1,867 MW as against 3,296 MW on November 20 evening. Wind energy generation picked up on November 25 and 26 to 400 – 500 MW. It was almost nil last week.

Workers from other States who were employed in the industries here are yet to return to work after Deepavali. Hence, several industries were not operating. The demand from industries is expected to increase by the end of this week in the district, the official says.

In several rural parts of the district, power cut was only for three hours on Sunday during day time. On Monday too the load shedding was very less. “This helped us reduce the use of generators,” says a paper board unit owner near Pollachi.
