Residents demand early completion rail over bridge

Residents of Avarampalayam and Ganapathy observed a fast here on Wednesday demanding early construction of Railway Over Bridge.

The agitation was organised by Avarampalayam-Ganapathy Railway ROB Agitation Committee. Residents of E.B. Colony, V.G. Rao Nagar, Asiriyar Colony, Varadarajulu Nagar, K.K. Nagar, Mahatma Gandhi Nagar participated in the huger strike.

Presiding over the agitation, P. V. Gopal, president of the Agitation Committee, alleged that the lackadaisical attitude of the officials of railway, revenue and highways department are responsible for the undue delay.

Due to heavy rail traffic​, the level crossing remains closed often resulting in the residents facing difficulty in reaching ​schools and offices on time.

Even the patients who needs emergency medical attention are unable to reach the hospitals in time, laments Mr. Gopal. Residents have to wait for a longer time to cross manned railway level crossing. The state and railways had allocated a sum of ₹ 32 crore for the construction of the ROB. Though the boomi puja for construction of ROB was held seven years ago, but the construction work was yet to begin due to the lethargy of officials, the residents alleged.

Functionaries of various political parties also participated in the agitation. . Officials have promised to find a solution to the end the inordinate delay.
