Residents of Saramedu and neighbouring localities blocked the Athupalam Road early on Sunday for about two hours demanding power supply.

According to the city police, the residents, numbering around 300, blocked the road around 2 a.m. complaining that they were troubled to no end by the erratic power supply. The elderly and children were unable to sleep because of frequent power cuts. This also affected their work in the day. The police said that the residents wanted to meet the officials of the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation but their request was shot down.

The police promised to look into the matter.
