Residents, who have constructed houses encroaching upon Sanganoor Canal on Fun Mall Road and also the Corporation’s reserved site in the vicinity, started vacating the place as the Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board had given them tenements in Vellalore.

The civic body sources said that the residents shifting to Vellalore had also help it regain 86 cent land on Fun Mall Road.

The residents along the Canal had been living there for over two decades. And those on the reserved site had been living there ever since 2010 when the Corporation developed the road to link Avinashi Road with Trichy Road through G.V. Residency.

The Corporation said that once the residents completed the migration, it would work on dredging and widening the Sanganoor Canal in the area.
