A resident of a gated community on Nanjundapuram Road G. Premanand spotted a Green Vine Snake ( Ahaetulla nasuta ) on the premises on Saturday around 10 a.m. He guarded it.

K. Rathish, a snake handler, was informed and by the time he reached the spot, the snake started giving birth. It delivered three.

Mr. Rathish said that the delivery stopped because of excessive disturbance caused by human interference.

The snake was then taken to an isolated place to allow it to complete delivery. The snake is found in India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Burma, Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam.

It is diurnal and mildly venomous and it normally feeds on frogs, lizards using its binocular vision to hunt. It can cause damage to tissues of human beings when bitten. But it has never posed any threat to life.

Mr. Rathish said that of late because of the rampant cutting of trees, and dried up water bodies, it was becoming very rare to sight a full grown green vine snake. Considering the size of the just born, Mr. Rathish said that they would be nurtured and then after a couple of days, they along with the mother would be released into a natural habitat.
