A three-month-old female calf that was rescued from the T.N. Palayam range in Sathyamangalam Forest Division has been taken to the Kozhikamudhi Elephant Camp in the Anamalai Tiger Reserve.
According to sources, the calf reached the camp on Sunday morning.
Since its arrival, the Department staff have been feeding milk, nutrient supplements and tender coconut to help it regain strength, for it is weak.
They are feeding the calf eight times a day.
The sources say that the baby elephant, which is playful, had bruises on legs after it got separated from its herd around a month ago. It will require another 10 days to regain strength.
Once it reaches normality, the officials plan to name the elephant, train and include it as a member of the camp. The calf takes the number of elephants in the camp to 24.
