They will get an MS degree and four years’ experience

The 403 students from 50 arts and science colleges of Bharathiar University recruited by Wipro Technologies will get an opportunity to learn while they earn.

At an orientation programme held at Sri Krishna Arts and Science College here on Friday, recruited students along with parents, were explained the nuances of the recruitment scheme.

In order to provide an opportunity to graduates of computer and physical science programmes pursue higher education, the company offers an all-paid 4-year MS programme.

The new recruits can study for the degree in the Wipro Academy of Software Excellence (WASE) or Wipro Software Technology Academy (WiSTA).

The academies have tie-ups with Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, and Vellore Institute of Technology.

Once they join the company in the fourth week of May, they will follow a schedule according to which they will work for five days and learn on the sixth day.

Classes will be held on the Wipro campus. At the end of four years, the new recruits will have an MS degree and four years’ experience.

M. Jayakumar, Director, Department of Extension, Career Guidance and Student Welfare, Bharathiar University, said that out of the 45,700 students who passed out with a degree from the university, 17 per cent went for higher studies, and an almost equal number went for placements.

“The rest of the students leave the institutions without any plan for the future. There are many opportunities provided in colleges to develop skills and knowledge, but these are not utilised by students during the term of study,” he said.

Terming the recruited candidates as economic assets of the family, company and country, Mr. Jayakumar urged them to aim at achieving zero error at work so that they could turn out to be brand ambassadors of the company and country.

There was an experience sharing session by a candidate of the 2010 batch undergoing the MS programme. Representatives from Wipro interacted with the recruits and parents about the scheme.

Wipro recognised two colleges of Bharathiar University for their contribution towards placement this academic session.

Sri Krishna Arts and Science College received the “Best Contributor and Nodal Centre” award, while PSG College of Arts and Science bagged the “Consistent Performer” award.
