A real estate businessman in the city was arrested on Wednesday by officials of the Anti Land Grabbing Cell on charges of selling a land reserved for a public park.

Seethapathi, the accused, was arrested based on a complaint by Ukkirapandian that he had paid an aide of the real estate agent Rs 1.86 lakh in 2006 for five and a half cents of land in Kalapatti area of the city, police said.

However, two months after the ‘sale’, he came to know that the site was reserved for a public park and approached the City Police Commissioner’s office for arranging to get his money back, police said.

The Anti Land Grabbing Cell investigated the case and arrested Seetapathi and remanded him to custody, after producing him before the court, they said.
