A rally propagating the theme ‘Everyone Counts' and a seminar on population-related issues marked the ‘World Population Day' celebrations organized by the district administration here on Tuesday.

Deputy Director of Public Health and Preventive Medicine V. Vijayalakshmi explained to an audience of teachers and students how ‘Everyone Counts' theme chosen by the United Nations Development Programme for the day would foster an understanding of why good demographic data was important in the planning process.

Collector C. Samayamoorthy, who flagged off the rally, called upon the public to cooperate with the administration on the Census exercise underway since a reliable data of population generated would help the authorities concerned to implement development works in a sustainable manner.

Deputy Director of Health (Family Welfare) Karunanidhi and senior officials from various departments spoke at the seminar that had been organised in order to mark the occasion.
