Rally creates awareness on glaucoma

The Eye Foundation is offering 50 per cent concession for glaucoma consultation till March 15

A glaucoma awareness rally was taken out in the city on Wednesday to mark the World Glaucoma Week.

It was organised by Vasan Eye Care Hospital and Lions club of Coimbatore, R.S.Puram - East.

Vasan Eye Care staff and students of various collages such as Vasan Institute of Ophthalmology and Research, Government Industrial Training Institute (Men), Coimbatore Institute of Technology, S.N.S. College of Arts and Science and G.R.G. College of Arts and Science participated.

The Eye Foundation is offering 50 per cent concession for glaucoma consultation from March 10 to 15 to mark the World Glaucoma Week.

According to a press release, the concession was being offered at its facilities at R.S.Puram, Sungam, Mettupalayam, Tirupur, and the Nilgiris to all new glaucoma patients.

The patients will also be given free drops and other medication in this week.

Patients requiring further investigation, treatment and surgery would also be offered the same at a concessional rate during this week

The Foundation said that studies had estimated that 3 to 5 per cent of Indians were at risk of getting glaucoma.
