Intermittent showers that the city and district witnessed on Saturday has helped in improving storage in various reservoirs.
Steady inflow was reported into the reservoirs under the Parambikulam – Aliyar Project. Authorities expect the storage to go up further as the rainfall as well as the inflow continued steadily. The district recorded a total rainfall of 214.80 mm and the average rainfall was 17.90 mm. Showers continued on Sunday also.
According to reports reaching the district headquarters, the rainfall received in mm in the last 24 hours that ended at 8.30 a.m. on Sunday is as follows: Annur 11.30, Airport Peelamedu 13.90, Mettupalayam 25.10, Pollachi 5, Periyanaickenpalayam 13, Sulur 14.20, TNAU 17.80, Chincona 13.50, Chinnakallar 35, Valparai PAP 28, Valparai taluk office 23, and Coimbatore South 15.
Similar showers were also reported in the catchment areas of Siruvani with dam and foothills recording 18 mm each. Rainfall in the upper reaches of the Nilgiris was said to be benefitting the catchments of Pilloor reservoir.

Steady picking up of rain in catchment areas has increased the inflow into Amaravathi and Thirumoorthy dams over the last few days.
The Public Works Department (Water Resources Organisation) sources told The Hindu that inflow in Amaravathi Dam was 1,500 cusecs and at Thirumoorthy Dam 919 cusecs, both at 7 a.m. on Sunday.
The water level at Amaravathi Dam stood at 56 feet against the maximum of 90 feet while the level at Thirumoorthy Dam was 54.17 feet against the maximum of 60 feet. In Tirupur city, the sky was overcast for almost the entire day with scattered rain at many places.
The Collectorate sources said the district received 98.9 mm rain, with an average of 14.13 mm, during the 24 hours ending at 8.30 a.m. on Sunday.
Following is the rainfall recorded at various places: Avinashi - 13 mm; Tirupur - 12 mm; Udumalpet - 31 mm; Palladam - 11.50 mm; Dharapuram - 10 mm; Kangayam - 6.4 mm and Mulanur - 15 mm.
