A government bus with around 60 passengers got stranded in the inundated Lanka Corner on Saturday night. The low-lying junction was filled with about four-and-a-half-feet water as moderately heavy rain lashed the city, during the late hours of the day.
Around 8 p.m. the bus from Ukkadam to Kalangal entered the middle eye in the three eyed underpass. Fire and Rescue Services personnel said that water entered the bus and the radiator also got filled with water and the engine turned off.
The personnel rescued more than 20 passengers with the help of a rope.
After the weight was reduced, the bus with the remaining passengers was towed out. This affected movement of vehicles there for nearly 90 minutes. The rain and wind also saw trees getting uprooted near the Nehru Stadium and on the Nanjundapuram Road. Power cuts were also reported in some areas.
