Tangedco and the Udhagamandalam Municipality officials are busy restoring power and water supply and removing debris where walls or buildings have collapsed as rain lashes The Nilgiris district. According to sources in the Tangedco, power was disrupted in 25 of the 49 feeders in the last few days but they were restored within a day or two of damage to lines. But trees continue to fall and disrupt power supply.

In the Ooty town, all major complaints have been attended to but there were individual fuse calls that the officials were trying hard to attend to as the workers were diverted for the bigger power restoration work in the feeders.

To restore water supply, the Municipality was using generators to pump water. In the areas covered under the ‘1 MGD’ scheme alone, the civic body was using three lorries to supply water. The Municipal officials say that their workers along with those from the Tangedco were working in the Parsn Valley head works to restore power supply to pump water to the town. In the last two days, 380 to 390 mm rains were recorded in the area pushing up the water level but they could not supply water due to power disruption. Likewise, in the town in the last couple of days four walls/buildings have collapsed. Though there was no major damage, the civic body was busy removing the debris, the officials add.
