Heavy winds for almost an hour and rain led to power disruptions in several parts of the city on Thursday evening.

Residents complained of power cut for four hours or more in some places.

An official of Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation said that almost all the sub stations in the city saw power supply disruptions and in some localities it lasted for a couple of hours or so.

This was mainly because of tree branches falling on power lines due to the winds.

The damaged equipment had to be replaced.

Repair works started by 6.15 p.m. and by 9 p.m. power supply was restored in 90 % of the areas, the official said.
