There was moderate rainfall in Coimbatore and The Nilgiris during the last 24 hours that ended at 8.30 am on Thursday.
Western Ghats in general and Valparai and The Nilgiris in particular had been experiencing heavy rain during the last few days.
In Coimbatore district, the total rainfall in the last 24 hours till 8.30 am of Thursday was 246.30 and the average rainfall stood at 20.52.
The Nilgiris witnessed a total rainfall of 234.70 and average rainfall stood at 13.81. In Coimbatore, the highest of 60mm was reported from Chinnakallar near Valparai and the lowest of 0.10mm came from Airport Peelamedu.
Since the beginning of the South West monsoon, rain has been heavy in Western Ghats, especially in the catchments. It was near normal in the plains.

However, the rain had helped in improving the storage substantially in the Parambikulam Aliyar Project reservoirs.
