Officials of the Pollachi Range of Anamalai Tiger Reserve on Wednesday rescued an eight-feet-long python at Aatupparai near Pongaliyur in Mankarai beat of Pollachi.

Following information, a team of forest officials led by Range Officer M. Ganesh Ram visited the spot, rescued the three-year-old python and released it into the Navamalai forests near Monkey Falls.

Mr.Ganesh Ram told The Hindu that the soaring mercury levels could be the reason behind the reptile leaving its natural habitat and straying into human habitations.

He added that in the last three months, nearly five snakes have been rescued.
