Public resort to road blockade in Tirupur

Public blocked Tirupur-Kangayam road on Wednesday alleging that town buses plying between Tirupur town and Nallur-Vijayapuram areas were not stopping at Pallakaduputhur bus stop between Rakkiapalayam Pirivu and Nallur stops.

N. D. Rajasekaran, a resident of Nallur, said due to buses not stopping at Pallakaduputhur the people from the locality could not reach workplaces and educational institutions on time in the morning.

Walk long distance

People coming back to the hamlet were forced to alight either at Nallur or Rakkiapalayam Pirivu and then walk long distances to reach their homes, he added.

Checking inspectors

The protestors relented only after the TNSTC officials agreed to post checking inspectors at the Pallakaduputhur for the next few days to ensure that all the town buses were stopping without fail.

Hosiery items gutted

Huge volumes of cloth materials, hosiery items and packing materials kept inside an industrial unit at Kamarajar Nagar here was gutted.

The Tirupur North police estimated the loss at Rs. 63 lakh.
