The Housing and Urban Development Department, Chennai, has cautioned the public not to believe any individual or entity posing as authorised person to solicit beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) scheme.
A press release said that neither the Housing and Urban Development Department in the State government nor the Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation (HUPA) in the Government of India have authorised any private individual or entity to collect money as a consideration for availing any benefit under the PMAY-Urban mission.
The release warned of action against such persons or entities and also those who use the name or logos of the departments for the above purpose. The release said that PMAY-Urban mission envisages demand survey to be conducted by the concerned Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) free of cost. It also provides for registration by potential eligible beneficiaries through the website of the HUPA. Registration is also being facilitated by the State governments at the Common Service Centres at a nominal charge of ₹ 25-plus service tax. Hence, the public are cautioned not to believe any individuals or entities.
