Observance of fasts, picketing, blocking trains, and formation of human chain continued on Thursday even after a U.S.-sponsored resolution against Sri Lanka and supported by India was adopted at the at the U.N. Human Rights Council.
Trains blocked
A group of students blocked the Korba-bound train near North Coimbatore Junction.
Similarly, the Intercity Express was blocked near the SIHS colony by a group of students.
Activists of Hanuman Sena tried to lock the Central Telegraph Office and staged a demonstration.
Air Force office
The police foiled an attempt by a group of 60 students to picket the Air Force office in Red Fields.
Three hundred students of the Coimbatore Medical College formed a human chain in Gandhipuram in the evening.
Lawyers
Members of the Coimbatore Bar Association observed a fast in front of the Combined District Sessions court complex.
About 300 members of the women’s wing of the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam observed fast at Gandhipuram.
Students tried to enter the telegraph office and BSNL exchange on State Bank Road.
Lawyers practicing in various courts in Pollachi, Mettuppalayam, and Valparai abstained from courts and staged a demonstration. People observed a fast at Thondamuthur and Perur in Coimbatore and at Ayyampalayam in Pollachi.
A fast was observed at Angalakurichi, near Pollachi.
Students of Bharathiar University continued with their relay fast on Thursday too.
By and large, the agitations remained peaceful on Thursday, the police said.
