Citizens on Tuesday blocked a road at Veliyangadu in Tirupur demanding that the Tasmac outlet and bar be closed.

People from different walks of life staged protests on Tuesday against the functioning of three liquor sales outlets in the city.

They demanded that the liquor outlets at Veliyangadu, Angeripalayam road, and Radha Nagar be closed.

The shops at Veliyangadu and Angeripalayam road have been functioning there for many years while the outlet at Radha Nagar was relocated to from elsewhere.

Tahsildar (Tirupur South) V. Gopal promised to close down the bar functioning close to the liquor shop in Veliyangadu in three days.

Tasmac officials promised to control the crowd and streamline the functioning of the outlet near Angeripalayam.

In the case of the outlet at Radha Nagar, one group of people wanted to close it, while another group objected to its closure. Officials said that talks were on with both the groups.
