The Welfare Party of India members staged a protest near the Aavin Milk Society here on Wednesday against the hike in milk price.
The State Government had increased the prices of all Aavin milk varieties by Rs. 10 per litre with effect from November 1.
Around 20 members of the party led by its president Abdul Rahman raised slogans against the government and called for a rollback of the decision. They said that the move would hit the common man very hard since the power tariffs are also going to be revised upwards. The police removed the protestors from the spot for staging agitation without prior permission.
In Tirupur , slamming the milk price hike, the Democratic Youth Federation of India staged a protest and sought an explanation as to why the losses incurred by the Tamil Nadu Cooperative Milk Producers Federation Limited need to be passed on to the consumers. “Steep increase in the end prices of various categories of milk sold under the ‘Aavin’ brand will affect poor families,” said Nandagopal Chandrasekaran, state vice-president of DYFI.
