Shops remain closed in Annur in the wake of a one-day bandh in the area.

A majority of the shops remain closed in Annur near here on Friday in the wake of a one-day bandh call given by Caste Hindus in protest against the alleged misuse of laws pertaining to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.

False complaint

According to the police, a section of the Caste Hindus were agitated after a case was registered recently against a member of their community under the SC/ST POA Act. They alleged that the complainant had lodged a false complaint to settle personal dispute.

Security strengthened

Following the bandh call, around 100 additional police personnel were deployed in the region to prevent any untoward incident.

Patrolling was also stepped up to prevent the forcible closure of shops.

Police officials said that the bandh passed off without any major incident.
