Protest against water supply by private person

Irate residents accompanied by P.R. Natarajan, MP, picketed a private water supplier at Annapoorna Layout in Sidhapudur on Monday.

It is learnt that owner of a vacant site dug a bore well about a fortnight ago and constructed a tank and started selling water to tankers.

This resulted in lining up of trucks in the area causing traffic snarl every day.

On Monday, too many trucks lined up hitting smooth flow of traffic.

Agitated over the unauthorised sale of water, causing inconvenience to fellow residents, people lead by the MP picketed the place.

The site owner was warned against unauthorised sale of water.

Fast observed

Law college students observed a fast at the college near Marudhamalai on Monday demanding that action be taken against Sub-Inspector Anburaj attached to a police station in Virudhunagar on charges of attacking, Manohar, a law college student when he had gone on vacation there.

Gambling

Periyanaickenpalayam police arrested Ravi and seven others on charges of gambling and recovered Rs. 1,000 from them and seized two roosters from a place in Sengalipalayam.

In Coimbatore City, a police team arrested Ramanathan (47) and nine others and recovered Rs. 6,500 from them when they were found gambling at a place in Rathinapuri area on Sunday. In two different raids in Kuniamuthur area, police arrested Subramanian and six others and Raja and five others on charges of gambling.
