Members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) along with other Hindu organisations and residents of Rathinapuri have demanded that the district administration reinstate a Vinayaka idol that was removed from the Corporation land at Rathinapuri on Saturday night.

Accompanied by the party cadres and residents, BJP zonal president K. Pandiyan submitted a petition to Collector M. Karunagaran during the grievance meeting at the Collectorate on Monday.

The Coimbatore City Police led by Assistant Commissioner Mutharasu and Revenue Department officials led by Coimbatore North Thasildar Rafiq Ahamad had removed the idol from MGR Nagar in Rathinapuri after stating that the residents had not obtained any permission for the same. The residents were given notices from the district administration and also the Coimbatore Corporation, but they refused to remove the idol.
