Protest against FDI in defence, insurance sectors

Protesting the proposals in the Union Budget to increase the composite cap of foreign exchange in defence manufacturing and insurance sectors, the members of Centre of Indian Trade Unions staged demonstrations in various parts of the district on Friday.

The trade unionists also called upon the Union Government to immediately roll back the recent increase in the prices of petroleum products and train fare.

C. Moorthy, the district joint secretary of the CITU, said the Union Government had sacrificed the national interest by increasing the cap of foreign exchange in defence manufacturing.
