Federation of All Jamat and Islamic Organisations staged a protest at Athupalam here on Sunday against the Central Government rule regulating cattle sale.
Sources said that members of Students Islamic Organisation, Welfare Party of India, Muslim Jananayaka Katchi, Muslim League, Popular Front of India, Social Democratic Party of India, and a few others participated in the protest that went on from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Members of Thanthai Periyar Dravida Kazhagam, Naam Tamilar and Adi Tamilar Peravai also joined the protest. Raja Hussain, coordinator of the Federation, led the protests and wanted the Central Government to withdraw the rule notification and the State Government to oppose the imposition of the rule in TN. The protesters said that their food was their right and that the Government had no right to intervene.
Tirupur Staff Reporter adds: Members of DYFI, SFI and AIDWA, all Left outfits, staged a beef-eating event here on Saturday evening to express their view of ‘My food, my right’ and protest against imposition of restrictions on cattle trade. DYFI district president C. Nandagopal said that cattle trade restrictions, if implemented, could be catastrophic for the farming community as they would not be able to sell aged cattle.
