V.R. Joseph and K.P. Alice on Monday approached the district administration with a strange request — protect them from their son.
In a petition submitted at the weekly grievances redress meeting at the Collectorate here, they said that their son was harassing them seeking money for day-to-day expenses, and family property.
He had moved to his in-laws’ house at Velandipalayam after his marriage in 2010.
He had even asked his wife to lodge dowry harassment complaint against them.
The police after conducting an inquiry had dismissed the complaint, they said.
The couple said they had already given him 9 cents.
He now wanted another 9 cents and the house they were living in.
He had barged into their house in the middle of night, forced them to sign papers to part with the remaining two properties, and had threatened to finish them off.
The police were investigating the case.
The couple urged the District Collector to provide them security, and to initiate action under ‘The Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007.’
Real estate companiesViduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi has urged the district administration to monitor the activities of real estate companies in the district.
In a petition, the party’s Coimbatore district secretary Susi. Kalaiarasan said that some of these companies were offering attractive schemes and duping the public. Those who get duped were weary of lodging complaints with the police or filing cases in courts.
The administration should help such people, the petition said.
Accident prevention
The Aam Aadmi Party has urged the district administration to initiate steps to prevent accidents on Mettupalayam Road. The officials should ensure that buses plying on the road were fitted with speed governors, and sliding doors. They should not be allowed to use air horns.
The road widening work from Narasimhanaickenpalayam to Mettupalayam should be completed immediately. The party said that action should be taken against State Transport Corporation buses with ordinary facilities charging express fares.
Money lendersSocial Awareness Movement on Monday petitioned the district administration seeking a directive to the police to invoke the special act the Tamil Nadu Government had enacted to protect people from usurious money lenders, when people approached the police with complaints in this regard. The petition said that the police were not invoking the act while registering cases. The usurious money lenders were active in Podanur, and Pollachi, the petition said.
