Prosecution set to begin arguments in Dalit youth murder case

The trial in the Dalit youth Shankar murder case is entering the key phase with the prosecution to commence the arguments in the case on August 31.

U. Sankaranarayanan, the Special Public Prosecutor appointed by the State Government for the case, was expected to hold his arguments for three consecutive days before the Principal District and Sessions Judge Alamelu Natarajan.

He had already completed examination of 67 main prosecution witnesses out of the total 121 witnesses enlisted in the case.

Meanwhile, the lawyers for various accused in the case had completed cross-examination of defence witnesses whom include the then Collector S. Jayanthi and then Superintendent of Police Saroj Thakur, who were holding the respective posts when the murder took place in March 2016.

Two media persons were also cross-examined as defence witnesses.
