Programme for parents of children with autism

May 03, 2010 12:05 am | Updated 12:05 am IST - COIMBATORE:

Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda University will conduct a programme for parents of children with autism.

A release from the Faculty of Disability Management and Special Education says special educators can also attend the programme, which will be held between May 3 and 7.

The programme is to create awareness among parents on the emotional needs of the children and how as parents they should respond. Parents need to be sensitised to the children's response, which may not be to their expectation.

It will help the parents have a holistic understanding of autism and learn techniques to nurture the children. This is important because parents also are teachers.

The programme will cover the nature, characteristics of autism, diagnostic techniques, therapies and techniques to manage children/persons with autism, discuss methods to improve children's talents, etc.

Persons interested may get in touch with Sudha, Lecturer in Special Education, Faculty of Disability Management and Special Education, Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda University, Periyanaicken Palayam, Coimbatore, or at 94877-67773, 0422-2697529.
