The Coimbatore City police said they had obtained vital clues from the two houses in Kurichi Housing Unit Phase I, where two robbers struck at broad daylight on Friday to decamp with 80 sovereign jewellery.
Around 2.30 p.m., two persons struck at resident Navaneethakrishnan’s house when only his wife was there. They gagged his wife Subbuthai and took away 60 sovereigns from the house. The police said that the duo also struck at Navaneethakrishnan’s neighbour Ramakrishnan’s house, from where they looted 20 sovereigns and Rs. 20,000.
The police also pressed into service finger print experts.
The police said that the two teams that had been formed to arrest the robbers had obtained vital clues. The modus operandi suggested that the two were professionals and were quite familiar with the area and the unavailability of men at that particular point of time in the houses.
The police also said that they were matching the finger prints obtained from the scene of crime with those available in their database.
Students hospitalised
Three students of the government school in Thondamuthur were admitted to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital on Friday after they vomited and fainted in the school after eating some poisonous fruits.
Sources said that after the lunch hour, Venkatesh, 14, Dinesh, 14, and Augustine, 14, - all Standard IX students, fell ill in the classroom.
They later fainted. Teachers rushed them to the hospital..
Suicide
Corporation conservancy worker Murugesan, 37, a resident of V.K.K. Menon Road committed suicide by hanging at his residence on Friday. The Coimbatore City police said that marital discord was the reason behind the man resorting to the extreme step.
