December 07, 2012 11:54 am | Updated 12:19 pm IST - Tirupur:

The Kunnathur police have registered a case against two persons for power theft which caused a loss of Rs.3,34,699 to Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO).

The police sources said that the case was taken up on a complaint lodged by R. Kannan, an Assistant Executive Engineer of TANGEDCO, that Palanisamy and his son illegally diverted the power supplied free of cost to them for agricultural purpose to their house and to a dairy.

It should be noted that a few days ago, a section of farmers had given representations to Collector G. Govindaraj seeking his intervention to stop illegal tapping of groundwater resources in agrarian areas in the district for commercial purposes. Large quantity of the water was drawn using power supplied free of cost, they said.
