The job working power loom units in Coimbatore and Tirupur districts, which were on strike since April 2, will resume operations from April 26.

The units, especially those making the Somanur variety fabric, were on strike demanding implementation of wages agreed to by the master weavers in 2014.

Coimbatore District Collector T.N. Hariharan held talks here on Monday with the job working unit owners and the master weavers. The master weavers have been asked to pay the wages that was agreed in 2014. Following this, the job working unit owners have decided to withdraw the strike from April 26.

A meeting will be held on April 25 at Somanur and operations will resume on Wednesday, said P. Kumaraswamy, secretary of the Coimbatore District Job Working Powerloom Unit Owners’ Association.

According to Joint Labour Commissioner P. Marimuthu, the textile manufacturers (master weavers) supply yarn to the job working units and pay weaving charges, which is also known as conversion charges.

Though the charges were agreed and approved by the government in March 2014, there was a complaint that it was not implemented. Hence, the District Collector held talks on April 17 and again on April 24. He has issued advices to the master weavers to implement the wages as per the agreement.
