Though daily power cuts in the district went up to nine hours or more a day last month, it has reduced to less than four hours a day now.
An official of the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) told The Hindu that power cut has been reduced as thermal power generation has increased during the last few days and it is expected to improve further.
Wind energy generation was almost nil on Saturday though it was about 500 MW a day for three days before that.
The average daily energy consumption in Coimbatore region, including Tirupur, Coimbatore and the Nilgiris districts, used to be 31 million units.
It has increased by two million units a day during the last three days. Yet, load shedding is not more than three-and-a-half hours a day in the district now. In some parts of the city, there is no power cut or it is for just two hours a day. The consumption could have gone up as industries might have improved operations as power supply is available now, the official said.
ScheduleThe Tangedco has, however, given a schedule of power cut for the district. It has assured the industries that even if power cuts increase, the units will have continuous supply for four hours. Industry owners here say that power cut has reduced during the last eight days compared to last month.
Data available on the website of the Tamil Nadu Transmission Corporation shows that load shedding in the State was 861 MW on Sunday morning, 1,280 MW on Saturday morning and 1,770 MW last Saturday.
K. Kathirmathiyon, secretary of Coimbatore Consumer Cause, says that though generation has increased slightly, the demand has also reduced during the last few days because of the rains.
The demand might increase by the end of this month when rains reduce in the State and there is a possibility for load shedding to increase then.
