Residents of Dhoddani village, near here, took to the streets on Monday in protest against the appalling condition of road leading to the village. With students in the vanguard hundreds of villagers took out a rally and staged a demonstration in front of the Collectorate here. The village is part of Kagguchi panchayat.

The villagers said the road was not only unfit for use but was also dangerous as the stones injured the pedestrians. During rain they were subjected to a great deal of hardship. Among those badly affected were school children.

They said Rs. 25 lakhs had been sanctioned for repairing the road but the funds had been diverted for improving a road nearby which was in a good condition. The tender for the work was being finalised on Tuesday, they said adding that it should be stopped. The District Revenue Officer, L. Nirmalraj, who held talks with them said that steps would be taken to redress their grievance.
