The members of Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday petitioned District Collector K. S. Palanisamy seeking an inquiry into the alleged misuse of public fund by the Nanjiyampalayam panchayat administration.
BJP’s Tirupur South district secretary K. S. Raja, one of the petitioners, said it was found from the records of the village panchayat that ₹ 4.96 lakh was spent to create a pond in the panchayat.
“The project has not been executed till now”, he said.
Irregularity
According to him, the irregularity came to light when the statement of accounts was presented during the recent gram sabha meeting held on May 18.
A scan of the financial statement presented at the gram sabha also exposed embezzlement in wage disbursal under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, he claimed.
The members said that people who had not worked under the scheme, including relatives of former civic body representatives, had claimed wages, even as some of the ‘actual’ workers were yet to get their full wages.
In another petition, BJP’s state executive member K.C.M.B. Sreenivasan had requested the district administration to carry out repair works at the government middle school in Naduvampalaym.
