The Pollachi West Police have arrested two youth on charges of assaulting a 20-year-old Pollachi resident. The police said that Rahul and his friend Arun Prasad had conspired to assault Charuhasan, 20, of Nallur after he asked them to not join the volleyball team as the two were in the habit of reporting for the game in inebriated condition.

To avenge their expulsion, the two had on Sunday evening pulled aside Charuhasan, who was returning home, and assaulted him with a country sickle in the cover of darkness. The two had used a girl, who had told Charuhasan that his uncle was looking for him and pointed to the direction where Rahul and Prasad lay in wait.

After Charuhasan raised a cry, the two fled the place. The third year college student then called up his parents, who rushed to the spot and took him to the Government Hospital in Pollachi by his parents.

The parents then lodged a complaint with the police, who registered a case and first interrogated Rahul as Charuhasan had told the police that he had found Rahul accompanying the girl who called him. But he could not identify the person who assaulted him.

The police questioned Rahul and based on the information he provided, questioned Prasad. The two confessed to their involvement, the police said and added that based on the information they had arrested the two.
